BOUQUET HOLDER, ANTIQUE, OR POSEY HOLDERNew ItemBOUQUET HOLDER, ANTIQUE, OR POSEY HOLDER
Date: Late 19th or early 20th c.
Price: $75
Description: Antique bouquet holder or 'posey holder', silver plate with chain and brass pins to hold bouquet in place. This was for carrying a small bouquet, often for a wedding or formal dance. In England and Europe small flower arrangements were ofter called 'posy' (also spelled 'posey') and in American these small containers were called 'tussie mussies'. Tussie is an old word meaning knot of flowers. The word mussie refers to wet moss used to keep the flowers wet. This trumpet shaped holder is mounted on a handle and the flowers fit down in the narrow end. The brass pin attached by a chain holds the flowers secure. There are no silver marks as it is silver plate. The ring is attached to the holder and shows a small weld where it is attached indicating old construction. The brass pin inserts through the holes to hold the bouquet. Charming and perfect for a bride to carry. 5 1/2 inches long and 1 1/2 inches wide. $75.
