Description: Rare set of two cast iron benches and two arm chairs after Karl Friedrich Schinkel (1781-1841) the Prussian neo-classical architect who designed this pattern for the Roman Baths in Potsdam Park in 1835. He was the architect to the King of Prussia. The design was influenced by the early Roman furniture discovered in Pompei and Herculaneum in the 18th century.The motif of the back panel is a scrolled lyre flanked by classical winged figures. Note the ram's head arm terminals and cloven hoofed feet. Late 19th or early 20th century. Benches: 31 1/2"H. 44"W. 19"D. Chairs: 31 1/2"H. 25 1/2"W. These pieces have been professionally cleaned and repainted. A cast iron chair in this design by Schinkel is in the collections of the Victoria and Albert Museum in London.

Description: Large cast iron bench in the Fern Pattern in old white paint. Late 19th or very early 20th century. This large bench matches the design of the fern pattern seating set #16254 on this website or can be purchased singly. It measures 33 1/2"h. and 58"W. This botanical pattern is often call Fern and Blackberry and originated in England in the 19th century and then was quickly copied by American foundries.

Description: Rare pair of antique cast iron benches in the Rustic or Twig pattern, one of the early 19th century cast iron botanical designs of oak branches and leaves and side stretchers of entwined snakes, and the seat formed by long curved knotted branches. Description: Five piece cast iron set in the Fern and Blackberry pattern, two wide 55 inch benches and three ample arm chairs, with curved shaped seats. Early 20th century. American. This botanical pattern was originally registered in 1870 in England by the Coalbrookdale Foundry and then copied by American foundries. The Fern pattern was one of the earliest naturalistic designs. Found in southern estate. Each piece of this set has been professionally cleaned and painted gloss black. Benches 33 inches high and 55 inches wide. Chairs 33 inches high and 24 inches wide.
