E-mail a Friend: BOOT SCRAPER, CAST IRON IN STONE, ANTIQUE

Antique cast iron classical form boot scraper mounted in a stone block designed for the stone block to be buried in the ground near an entrance so only the cast iron is above ground for foot scraping. In the 18th and 19th centuries in America most streets were not paved so boot scrapers were a necessity to keep mud and dirt from being carried into a building. Today these early cast iron and stone block mounted boot scrapers can still be seen embedded in the front of historic buildings in Baltimore, MD., Alexandria, VA. and historic homes. Total height 11.5 inches. Stone block 5 inches high and 9 inches square. Iron scraper 6.5 high and 7 inches wide. $250
