Description: American antique cast iron garden bench in the Curtain pattern with three panel back, openwork seat and scrolled arms, circa 1870-1900. This exotic design is a combination of Renaissance Revival and Gothic influences and was very popular at the end of the 19th century and was cast by all the major foundries. This bench is in excellent condition except for a replaced front apron by a decorative cut out iron piece, well installed. Side aprons are original. 35 inches high, 44 inches wide and 15 1/2 inches deep. $750. A good buy.

Description: Round cast iron tilt top table, 19th century, with decorative border around the top, over ornate baluster pedestal base ending in tripartite feet. The hinged top tilts and locks upright for display or storage. Signed in two places in the casting: 'Rudy Groeger', probably name of foundry maker. Late 19th century. This form was called a center or conservatory table in the 19th century and was placed in a garden or conservatory with chairs for serving light fare. This table form was illustrated in many 19th century iron foundry trade catalogs. American. Unusual form to find in antique garden pieces today. 29 1/2 inches high, 28 inches wide. 48 inches high when tilted. Another similar table in this form with a decorative pierced top is also listed under item #13309, Zodiac Table, on this site.

Description: Pair of vintage spring form or bent steel garden chairs,early 20th century, in a design of curved vertical steel strips after a French design patented by Francois A. Carre of Paris, France in 1866 and introduced in America in 1870. These chairs are illustrated and identical to the French garden chairs shown in an engraving published in 'INNOVATIVE FURNITURE IN AMERICA from 1800 to the present' by DAVID HANKS, page 63, from the catalog of the 'Societe Anonyme des Hauts-Fourneaux & Fonderies du Val d'Osne, Paris' c. 1870. This type of chair was comfortabe with the flexable steel seats, and it continued to be popular in the 20th century particularly in the 1920's and was still manufactured in the 1940's.
