Description: Unusual pair of beige terra cotta sphinxes on plinths, with Egyptian-style head-dresses, late 19th or early 20th century. Sphinxes were mythological creatures with the body of a lion and head of a woman. Those with the Egyptian-style head-dresses were popular in the the first half of the 18th century. Then after Napoleon's Egyptian campaign of 1798 they were popular into the 19th century. 19 inches high, 28 inches deep, and 9 1/2 inches wide. Pair $2900.

Description: Pair of 19th or very early 20th century wirework demilune shaped three tiered plant stands decorated with rolled and scrolled wire patterns. These are heavy in weight designed to hold multiple heavy flower pots. By the mid 19th century machines were invented to extrude wire for the iron foundries, which was first used for fencing and eventually by the late 19th century for all sorts of fanciful garden items such as garden houses, trellis, elaborate plant stands, fancy chairs and tables for both indoor and outdoor garden use. These were extremely popular well into the 20th century. Sold as a pair. Unusual to find a a pair. Each stand measures 39 inches high, 33 inches wide and 19 inches deep.

Description: The design of these benches is a beautiful naturalistic interpretation of the Passion Flower Vine, with a curved back entwined with flowers and leaves and bird head arm terminals. This is a rare pattern and this rare pair of benches is cast in zinc which toward the end of the 19th century the iron foundries were using in preference to cast iron. Somewhat lighter than cast iron, zinc does not rust so is advantageous to use in a coastal environment. These would be beautiful in any garden setting. They have been professionally cleaned of many layers of old paint and painted white. 31 inches high, 39 inches wide and 30 inches deep. Sold as a pair.

Circa 1920-30. Hubley is known among doorstop collectors as one of the most outstanding and important producers of doorstops. Perfect gift for a golfer. $325.

Description: American antique cast iron garden bench in the Curtain pattern with three panel back, openwork seat and scrolled arms, circa 1870-1900. This exotic design is a combination of Renaissance Revival and Gothic influences and was very popular at the end of the 19th century and was cast by all the major foundries. This bench is in excellent condition except for a replaced front apron by a decorative cut out iron piece, well installed. Side aprons are original. 35 inches high, 44 inches wide and 15 1/2 inches deep. $750. A good buy.

Description: Round cast iron tilt top table with decorative border around the top, over ornate baluster pedestal base ending in tripartite feet. The hinged top tilts and locks upright for display or storage. Signed in two places in the casting: 'Rudy Groeger', probably name of foundry maker. Late 19th century. This form was called a center or conservatory table in the 19th century and was placed in a garden or conservatory with chairs for serving light fare. This table form was illustrated in many 19th century iron foundry trade catalogs. American. 29 1/2 inches high, 28 inches wide. 48 inches high when tilted. Another similar table in this form with a decorative pierced top is also listed under item #13309, Zodiac Table, on this site.
