Description: Large cast iron bench in the Fern Pattern in old white paint. Late 19th or very early 20th century. This large bench matches the design of the fern pattern seating set #16254 on this website or can be purchased singly. It measures 33 1/2"h. and 58"W. This botanical pattern is often call Fern and Blackberry and originated in England in the 19th century and then was quickly copied by American foundries.

Description: Antique cast iron Gothic pattern bench professionally cleaned and repainted black. American late 19th or early 2oth century. This design was patented in 1846 by the Carron Foundry of Scotland and patented in the U.S. in 1848. It is often called the "Rose Garden" pattern since it has been used on the White House grounds since 1854. 36"H. 46"W. 21"D.

Description: Five piece cast iron set in the Fern and Blackberry pattern, two wide 55 inch benches and three ample arm chairs, with curved shaped seats. Early 20th century. American. This botanical pattern was originally registered in 1870 in England by the Coalbrookdale Foundry and then copied by American foundries. The Fern pattern was one of the earliest naturalistic designs. Found in southern estate. Each piece of this set has been professionally cleaned and painted gloss black. Benches 33 inches high and 55 inches wide. Chairs 33 inches high and 24 inches wide.

Description: The classic design of this urn is called the Medici Urn, after a marble bell shaped urn sculpted in Athens 1st century AD as a garden ornament and now in the Uffizi Gallery in Florence, Italy. This cast iron example of the Medici urn's bowl is decorated in high relief with Greek figures in a procession. The rim of the bowl is labeled with the the name Janes Beebe & Co. This 1850's foundry was located in Manhattan and then moved to the Bronx,N.Y. By 1859 the name was changed to Janes, Fowler, Kirkland & Company and they won the contract to replace the dome of the U.S. Capital Building with a new cast iron dome. The work was done at their foundry in the Bronx, N.Y. through out the Civil War. The Janes Beebe & Co. label dates this Medici urn to the 1850's. The socle of the urn on a square base is labeled Walbridge & Co. Buffalo, N.Y. so is a replacement. The urn has been professionally cleaned and repainted. 49 1/2"H. 23 1/2"W.

These urns relate to French urns with similar handles shown in the circa 1870 trade catalog of The Societe Anonyme des Hauts-Forneaux & Fonderies du Val d'Osne, a group of designers and founders in France. J.W. Fiske Iron Wks. New York also made a similar urn with and without handles.

This seat of scrolling curved form with an arched back pierced with passion flowers and vines has end supports with parrot head terminals over cabriole legs.
