Description: Unusual and beautiful large cast iron two part garden urn with elongated vase shaped bowl, labeled in casting on base: 'J.L. Mott Iron Works, N.Y.' Bowl is decorated with design of stylized spray of leaves and scrolls centering a flower, and has geometric borders. In two original sections and measures: 41.5in H., bowl 16in W. and 19in sq. plinth. Has been cleaned, primed and repainted. Circa 1870.

Description: Antique cast iron garden bench in the Curtain pattern with three panel back, openwork seat and scrolled arms, circa 1870-1900. This exotic design is a combination of Renaissance Revival and Gothic influences and was very popular at the end of the 19th century and was cast by all the major foundries. This bench is in excellent condition except for a replaced front apron by a decorative cut out iron piece, well installed. Side aprons are original. 35 inches high, 44 inches wide and 15 1/2 inches deep. $575. A good buy at this price.

Description: Set of five cast iron classical garden chairs, three arm chairs and two side chairs, back splats decorated with a classical urn holding flowers and flanked by leafage swags or garlands, with iron rod seats, in recent black paint. Circa 1925. This design is inspired by a garden chair circa 1835 designed by Prusssian artist Karl Friedrich Schinkel (1781-1841) for the Roman Baths in Potsdam Park; inspired by classical Roman examples which were discovered in the 18th century at Pompei and Herculaneum. The Boston company W. A. Snow Iron Works patented this design on Nov. 3, 1925 and named it "Garland." It was illustrated in their catalog. 30in. H. 19in. W. 18in. D. A bench and one arm chair in addition is also is available in the same pattern. It thus would be possible to form a large set of one bench and six chairs in this design.

Description: Antique single cast iron arm chair in the 'Rustic' pattern, a naturalistic design of entwined oak branches and leaves with the sides in a design of entwined snakes. Painted black. Very heavy and beautifully cast. Signed in casting on the top is 'GEO.GREW--. This chair was probably ordered for this person in the 19th century. The 'Rustic' pattern iron chair design originated in Scotland and England circa 1850 and was quickly copied by American iron foundries. A similar design was shown in the English 1785 design book 'A CHAIR-MAKER'S FRIEND' and the design was titled 'Rural Chairs for Summer Houses.' We also have a pair of Rustic pattern chairs in inventory. See inventory #13680.

This form of garden table was listed in the 19th century foundry catalogs as a 'Conservatory' table. Circa 1880. American. This table is beautifully cast with exceptional detail in the design. For a similar table please see item #14170. 29in H. 32in W. "Fiona seated her guests around a white cast iron table shaded by lilac trees. Linen and plates were soon brought; followed by a fresh pot of tea and a pitcher of lemon squash. Description: Round cast iron tilt top table with decorative border around the top, over ornate baluster pedestal base ending in tripartite feet. The hinged top tilts and locks upright for storage. Signed in two places in the casting: 'Rudy Groeger', probably name of foundry maker. Late 19th century. This form was called a center or conservatory table in the 19th century and was placed in a garden or conservatory with chairs for serving light fare. This table form was illustrated in many 19th century iron foundry trade catalogs. American. 29 1/2 inches high, 28 inches wide. 48 inches high when tilted. Description: Antique Warwick urn or vase in zinc on original antique rustic pattern cast iron pedestal. Circa 1870. The urn or vase is cast in zinc and pedestal cast in iron as noted in the J.L. Mott catalog. Attributed to J.L. Mott Iron Works, New York and illustrated in their 1875 Catalog of Fountains, Vases, Settees etc. In three sections, with replaced socle. The Warwick Vase is an ancient Roman marble vase with Bacchus ornament that was discovered at Hadrian's Villa, Tivoli about 1771 by Gavin Hamilton, a Scottish antiquarian in Rome. Hamilton sold the fragments of the vase to Sir William Hamilton, British envoy at the Court of Naples. It was passed on to his nephew George Grenville, 2nd Earl of Warwick who installed it at Warwick Castle. Sold in 1978 it is now in Glasgow, Scotland. Because of its rich ornament and form the Warwick Vase has become famous in the visual repertory of classical design. 36 inches high and 24 inches wide. This urn and pedestal have been professionally cleaned, primed and repainted a light grey.
