PASSION FLOWER BENCH CAST IRON Date: mid 20th c. Price: Please contact us for price Description: Beautiful antique cast iron garden bench in the rare Passion Flower pattern. This early botanical design originated in England and was registered in 1862 by the Coalbrookdale Company and was then copied by American foundries. This seat of scrolling curved form with an arched back pierced with passion flowers and vines has end supports with parrot head terminals over cabriole legs. This set has been professionally cleaned and painted gloss black. The Fern pattern was one of the earliest naturalistic designs from the mid 19th century English Coalbrookdale foundry designers, and which was then copied by American foundries. Circa 1900. Heavy wire was extremely popular for many forms of garden furniture such as plant stands, tables and chairs, settees and arbors during the late 19th century into the early 20th century. This heavy garden settee has several layers of old paint. SET OF TWO SCHINKEL BENCHES and TWO CHAIRS Date: Late 19th century early 20th C. Price: Please contact us for price Description: Rare set of two cast iron benches and two arm chairs after Karl Friedrich Schinkel (1781-1841) the Prussian neo-classical architect who designed this pattern for the Roman Baths in Potsdam Park in 1835. He was the architect to the King of Prussia. The design was influenced by the early Roman furniture discovered in Pompei and Herculaneum in the 18th century.The motif of the back panel is a scrolled lyre flanked by classical winged figures. Note the ram's head arm terminals and cloven hoofed feet. Late 19th or early 20th century. Benches: 31 1/2"H. 44"W. 19"D. Chairs: 31 1/2"H. 25 1/2"W. It is a beautiful botanical curvilinear design depicting the Passion Flower vine. This heavy cast aluminum bench has a weathered surface with traces of white old white paint and dates mid 20th century.
